A judge in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has ordered that the 888.com website be blocked for the residents of the South American city on the grounds that the website violates local gambling laws.
888.com and 888.com.ar To Be Blocked
The ruling - which was published in the Buenos Aires government's official journal at the end of March - was made by municipal prosecutor Luis Duacastella Arbizu and requires 888.com and 888.com.ar to be blocked for Buenos Aires residents. 888 was granted a 48-hour window to take necessary measures to prevent these residents from accessing these websites.
Buenos Aires Contravention Code
Arbizu considered 888's websites to violate articles 116,117 and 118 of the Buenos Aires 'Contravention Code', a code which specifically prohibits the local operation and/or promotion of gambling services without a gambling license.
The 888.com website offers an online poker room, the 888.com Casino, sports betting and also the very popular 888Ladies.com Bingo.
Know Your Local and National Laws
While we wish that rulings like this would not be made and that everyone could enjoy a well regulated online gaming environment, a country's law has to be respected and that's why we urge everyone to check local and national laws before signing up at any online casino.
