Australia's Online Gamers Lead The Way

If I asked you right now which country you think has the most online gamblers, you would probably mention the U.S. or the United Kingdom but would you have gone with Australia?

The Biggest Spenders

A recent report that was conducted by two professors from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, says that Australians and New Zealanders are world leaders when it comes to online gaming. They surveyed over 20,000 adults from 105 countries and that study concluded that Australian players spend a higher monthly average on online casino and poker gaming.

The "Aussie Firewall"

The irony in all of this is that the great Aussie Firewall is going to block a number of online casino and poker rooms if their government succeeds with its current plan. Now keep in mind that Australian players reportedly spend about $300 on average in a month on online gaming, which is approximately five times as much as they spend in land-based casinos.

Future Problems?

As of now we can't say much yet about the Aussie Firewall and the effect that it will have on online gaming but it's definitely something that we're going to have to keep an eye on. Besides censorship, it becomes an even touchier subject when you when you consider the great number of people (and revenue) that will be on the other side of that firewall should it be fully implemented.
