Ohio's First Casino on Track for Opening
Ohio's first casino -- the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland -- is on track for is planned opening by March 2012, with two different 10 hour construction shifts working in overdrive to finish the project.
The casino is a joint partnership of for Rock Gaming and Caesars Entertainment, and poised to be the first casino in Ohio to open its doors to the public with an array of slots, table games, and a poker room.
The Horseshoe Casino Cleveland is being built in two phases, with the first being a renovation of the historic former Higbee department store while the second phase will involve the building of new construction.
Featured in the movie "A Christmas Story", many original elements of the Higbee building have been maintained according to Jeff Cohen, head of casino construction for Rock Gaming:
"If you come in here, if you've seen the movie, if you saw what this looked like the day that it opened, there's going to be a lot of memories in this place that you'll be able to see. We kept a lot of the historical elements here. The columns have all been restored to their original condition and the original doors kept."
When complete the casino will have 2,011 slot machines, 63 table games, and a 30-table poker room that will host World Series of Poker circuit events.
In addition to offer more gambling options to players the new casino will also be a boon to the local economy, with about 600 dealers hired and an additional 750 non-gambling jobs created as well.
