PartyGaming Signs Deal with Dansk Spil
The Danish Government is quite progressive when it comes to the treatment of online gambling related issues. Although the appropriate legislation to legalize online gambling still has to be put in place, Dansk Spil already signed a 5-year deal with major market force Party Gaming.
Danish Gambling Policy
A little while ago we wrote about the plans of the Danish Government to liberalize the entire land-based and online gambling markets. The government currently provides online gambling services through the 80% state-owned monopoly called Dansk Spil, but as in most other countries citizens easily find their way to offshore yet 'illegal' competitors.
If the above mentioned plans, already translated into pieces of draft legislation, will be realized, the entire online gambling sector will be regulated and become accessible for foreign online gambling operators.
Party Gaming Deal
Although this process is likely to take at least until next year, the effects of the proposed policy change are already visible. Dansk Spil has sat around the table with European gambling giant PartyGaming, which resulted in a 5-year contract for the provision of gambling services.
Details of the agreement state that PartyGaming will deliver online casino games and online poker related services. With Dansk Spil's current base of 500,000 active customers, PartyGaming CEO Jim Ryan rightfully calls this a "landmark" deal. This deal will give the company a tremendous head start when the Danish legislation will finally be put into place.
