Craps Strategy: Don't Pass
If you're looking for a craps strategy that will give you your best chance to win, consider a don't pass strategy. Don't pass is not heavily publicized on the craps layout, but it really does offer the best odds on the craps layout.
Betting "Don't Pass"
Don't pass is the opposite of a pass line bet. You win on a 2 or 3 and lose on a 7 or 11 (a 12 is a push so that the casino can retain its edge). If a point is established, a don't bettor wins if the shooter sevens out before rolling the point. Don't pass offers a House edge of only 1.36 percent.
If you're looking for your best chance to win at craps, this is the way to go. When you bet "wrong," you are generally betting against the shooter and most of the other bettors, so be prepared for some dirty looks. If betting against the other players bothers you, don't pass is a good craps strategy to play when you are playing online.
Laying Odds
If you really want to knock that House edge down, lay odds on your don't pass bet. Just as taking odds on a pass line bet gives a player a true odds payoff, laying odds on a don't pass bet is a zero House edge bet. Taking double odds on don't pass brings the House edge down to less than half a percent.
Since you are laying odds, you will have to put up more than double your bet to earn double odds. For example, if the point is 4 or 10, you will have to lay 1-to-2 odds. This means you will have to risk $2 for every $1 you want to win, so that if you want to win an extra $10 on your $5 don't pass bet, you will have to put down $20.
Don't Come
Just as a come bet is like a pass line bet for the very next throw, a don't come bet in craps allows you to bet "don't," even if a point has already been established.
