Gambling Theory and Other Topics
By Mason Malmuth
Mason Malmuth is a well known and respected name in the gambling world. He has written several books and essays on the subject, and is also well-known as the co-author of a number of tremendously successful poker books, written together with David Sklansky.
Just like in Malmuth's other books, as well as in those co-written with David Sklansky, the subject of gambling in various forms is treated very seriously. Nothing of importance is left out in any way.
This book tries to explain why only a few people are highly successful at gambling, and identifies the traits which differentiate these people from the rest of us. It explains not only the "how" to do, but also - and perhaps more importantly - "why" to do it. More than providing a few odds charts and leave it at that, Malmuth puts the reader into the mindset of a professional gambler.
As can be expected from a successful poker author, Malmuth deals with poker in Gambling Theory and Other Topics, but also other casino games such as blackjack and Pai Gow . Unfortunately, the book is slightly out-dated and not all that easy to read, but it's still definitely worth a read by anyone who takes gambling seriously.
