Imagine sitting at a table in sunny Cannes at the French Mediterranean coast, playing backgammon for prizes worth $300,000. Three big events lead up to the final
The 2007-2008 WSOB, World Series of Backgammon, consists of three events spread out over the season: UK Masters in London, Nordic Open in Copenhagen and the Riviera Cup in Cannes.
The €10,000 WSOB Championship Event takes place the day after Riviera Cup has been terminated, on July 21. Eight players will battle it out for the championship title and a $300K worth of prizes - the winner of each of the preceding WSOB live events together with five satellite qualifiers.

Online satellites are held at two sites: GammonEmpire.com (3 seats) and PartoucheGammon.com (2 seats). At Gammon Empire, the large scheduled satellite tournaments cost €3.80 (about $7.50), while sit-and-go satellites start at $11.
For those who really, really enjoy the sun and the sea of the Mediterranean, maybe the finest path into the WSOB Championship Event goes by the paradisiacal Greek island of Zakynthos, whose Festival of Backgammon and Poker gives away one final seat in the big one. This week-long event takes place from June 19 to June 26.
WSOB doesn't interfere with the WSOP
Poker players should note that even if you make it to the final table of the WSOP Main Event you'll still have plenty of time to go to the WSOB, since the WSOP Main Event ends on July 14.
