When it comes to the vibrant world of us online casinos, the United States is one of the places to watch as bigger is always better. The U.S. has many home-grown entities in a stranglehold, take a look below and find yours.

What should you know about Online Casino USA?

You can only play at online casinos in specific states.

There are a number of payment options which are offered to American Customers at online casinos.

Online Casinos in the USA

While online poker is the only thing which can be played within the borders of Nevada, New Jersey residents have it miles better as it is only casinos which are partnered with Atlantic City (and thus already have a reputation) which are awarded licences - this means that big bucks are being generated online and although there are fewer brick and mortar establishments than there were a few years ago, this partnering has given the already established casino world a whole new lease on life. Despite the myriad of limitations, California is in big discussions to legalize online poker in the same way that Atlantic City has. Such legalization also has exciting implications in terms of the new online casino businesses it could attract to American soil. What we at CasinoToplists always unequivocally recommend is that you always play within the parameters of the laws of your state.

The Games at US Online Casinos

Maybe it’s because Americans are suckers for nostalgia, but nothing beats their thirst for Poker, Slots, Blackjack online  and Online Roulette – the latter’s status as much-loved game is probably cemented by its almost film staresque status in Hollywood.  Of course, much of this void is currently being filled by sports betting which is lucrative yet deprives players of the instant gratification and easy payouts characteristic of the online world.

Online Casino USA Legislation

online casino usa legislationAfter the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda passed the Free Trade & Processing Act in 1994 allowing licences to be granted to organisations applying to open online casinos, many other countries began scrambling to rearrange their own legal frameworks to either support (or rebuke) online gambling and while things were quite happily unruly in the United States for a stretch of time, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was a major game changer.

The UIGEA prohibits the transfer of funds from a financial institution to an off-shore internet gambling site, thus leaving many online gamblers at sea as to how to proceed legally and although several attempts have been made to overturn it or find loopholes, the outcome of the quite recent U.S. v. Schienberg et al case where three online poker companies were indicted for violating U.S. laws show that the UIGEA is still very much alive and kicking. That said, progress has been made and variants of online gambling are legal to residents within the borders of Nevada, as well as New Jersey (though terms and conditions apply) - states such as Delaware and California are moving towards legalising it too.

It is interesting to note that while online gambling is not legal within the borders of the states themselves; neither the UIGEA, nor any other federal law explicitly prohibits American citizens from placing bets at online casinos abroad. The following states have no laws which prohibit their citizens from gambling overseas: Alabama, Hawaii, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Alaska, Idaho, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Iowa, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Arkansas, Kansas, New Hampshire, South Carolina, California, Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, Colorado, Maine, New Mexico, Texas, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, Utah, Delaware, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Vermont, District of Columbia, Michigan, North Dakota, Virginia, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia, Georgia.

What is Uigea?

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, more commonly known as the UIGEA, prohibits the transfer of funds from a financial institution to an off-shore internet gambling site. When this law was passed the entire landscape of online gambling in America changed overnight. Here we take a deeper look at UIGEA and describe what the law say and, which perhaps is more important, what it doesn’t say.

online casino USA uigeaUIGEA is part of The Security and Accountability for Every Port Act of 2006, or more commonly known as the SAFE Port Act. Former president George W. Bush signed it into law on October 13, 2006. Almost immediately, publicly held online gaming sites stopped taking American players. The Act effectively ended online gaming in the United States. But only for a short period of time.

Due to the many loopholes and contradictions in this law, a player can still send a check or money order to the sites if he chooses us online casinos. There is also a growing effort, led by Congressman Barney Frank, to overturn the Act and restore the choice of whether or not to use those sites to the people. The Act is designed to increase security at our nation's ports and to end the use of financial institutions to transfer funds to an online gambling site. It basically ends individuals' ability to use a credit card, in most cases, to pay for their online gambling

What is IGREA?

IGREA – Internet Gambling and Regulation Enforcement Act – is a piece of legislation that was first introduced in April, 2007. It was designed to establish a regulatory and enforcement framework for licensed gambling operators to accept bets from US citizens. The Act would create practical and enforceable standards for Internet gambling and provide protection that consumers expect and deserve. It's a community of players that see the value in legalizing online gambling. The Act provides a certain level of security to all online gamblers regardless of what games they choose to play. First introduced in 2007, the Act provides against money laundering, underage gambling, fraud and identity theft. This is considered the first step in reversing the government's efforts to ban online gambling.

IGREA does not distinguish between the various types of online gambling. Another version was introduced in 2008 by Representative Jim McDermott and ensures that taxes are collected on regulated Internet gambling activities. For players in US online casinos, IGREA is great news. Regardless of the fact that transferring funds to online gambling sites is illegal, hundreds of thousands of Americans continue to gamble online with little to no protection from the government. It would place practical and enforceable standards to bring transparency to Internet gambling and provide players with the protections they expect and deserve.

What is SSIGI?

The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative, more commonly referred to as the SSIGI, is an initiative designed to legalize, protect and tax online gambling. It promotes the freedom of individuals to gamble online with the proper safeguards to protect players and ensure the integrity of financial institutions. The Initiative is also a resource for information about legislation to regulate internet gambling and provides individuals, organizations and companies the opportunity to support legislation and engage their elected officials. Through the creation of legislation, the SSIGI is working to legalize all aspects of online gambling in the US. They believe it is the right of the American individual to engage in such activities.
