How to play Online Blackjack with Real Money
Once you’ve accustomed yourself to the basic rules in our demo version, you can play online blackjack real where the stakes are real. The aim is to get as close to “21” as possible and not go over, to beat the dealer. Only the player can see their cards.
Our directory rates all the top online Blackjack games, ranking them in safety and security and the variants available to play.
Online Blackjack Basic Rules
Although there are many varieties of rules – the aim is the same – get a “21”, or as close to it as possible. If none of the players’ total 21, the highest hand (closest to 21) wins. You’re betting that the dealer has a worse hand than yours.
- The “Ace” is your friend. If you get an Ace and a ten-value card (King, Queen, Jack), you’ve got a blackjack, or natural, and assuming you’re the only one – you win that round and receive some bonus, too. The same applies to blackjack online.
- When you receive a “soft” hand, it means you’ve received an Ace with the value of 11, and additional cards won’t push you over 21 – even in the event you draw a higher card. If your cards’ value with a soft-Ace hand surpasses 21, the Ace will assume a value of one, which will automatically lower your score.
- A “hard” hand doesn’t contain any aces, or if there is one present, the value is set at one only.
- If you decide to “Stand”, you won’t receive additional cards. When you “Hit”, you’re taking another card to add to your hand.
- Exceed 21, and you’re bust, whereby you lose your bet, and you need to wait for the next round to start before placing another wager.
Different Blackjack Variants
Blackjack rules are not difficult to understand but could take some getting used to. We suggest you play different blackjack variants for free before using real money, so you don’t get caught out.
Blackjack Switch
Instead of receiving one hand, you’ll get two which are dealt face-up. And you’re allowed to swap/switch your two top cards. Most casinos that offer blackjack online will offer this variant.
Multi-hand Blackjack
As the name suggests, you can play more hands than one. This is something you decide before the start of play. All other basic rules will remain the same as when you play blackjack online.
Single deck Blackjack
Played with a single deck of cards instead of two or more. The dealer’s cards are dealt one face up and one face down, and the players are dealt face up. Play blackjack online free to get to grips with this variety of the game.
Pontoon
Whoever draws the first Jack is the dealer or banker. If you get an Ace and 10-point card, you’ve got a “pontoon” and need to announce it and put the cards on the table.
Then, players can decide to stand (if the value is above 16), buy, or twist. You can buy cards to reach a maximum of five, which beats everything except a pontoon. Once you’ve “twisted”, you can’t buy another card.
